Ann Arbor makes a big first impression. Of course, being home to the University of Michigan doesn’t hurt. After all, if you’re a Big 10 fan, then you know just how important football and sports are to Michigan fans. But, make no mistake about it, Ann Arbor is much more than just home to the University of Michigan (although I’m sure to some, that alone is enough), it’s a wonderful goldmine of urban sophistication and fun.

There are a certain energy and spirit that resides in Ann Arbor and it’s felt as you stroll along the boutique and restaurant-lined downtown streets. Everywhere you look there is an opportunity to enjoy world-class museums, art, unique dining options and so much more.

While there is plenty of dining and bar options, Ann Arbor is very family friendly as well. Recently, my boys and I made a trip ourselves. We chose to stay at the Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice. First of all, it is in a beautiful area right near the University (but set far back enough not to be bothered by any traffic or university noise). We felt completely safe as we parked (free parking) and unloaded our stuff.

After check-in, we quickly unpacked in the room (the boys had a swimming pool to get to after all!). The room gave us plenty of space and I appreciated the ample drawer space. For those needing to plan meals or snacks for their family, you’ll appreciate the mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. Often, hotels mark up any quick-meal items, but after checking out their selection, I have to admit their prices seemed very reasonable.

We also found Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South to be very clean and updated. We found it very comfortable not only in our room but throughout the hotel.

Many families appeared to be enjoying the hotel as they headed to a variety of activities. I believe we saw everyone from baseball players to those heading to a wedding dressed in their finest. It’s definitely a hotel that can serve a wide variety of traveler’s needs.

To start our days off right, we made sure to enjoy the complimentary buffet. The food was tasty and we appreciated the options. Along with continental options, you could also enjoy French toast, oatmeal (with toppings), eggs and sausage. It was the perfect way to get the boys up and moving!

Ann Arbor offers so much to do and see (and eat!) that is impossible to do it all in one weekend. And, I think that’s ok. It means we’ll have to go back. And when we do, we’ll make sure to stay at Hampton Inn Ann Arbor-South!
