Our recent trip to The Resort at Glade Springs in West Virginia was well worth the trip – and it was only a 5 ½ half hour drive from northwest Ohio!

Having driven through West Virginia before, we had not made a trip to simply take in the beautiful state. We chose The Resort at Glade Springs as our home base for exploring for several reasons. First, it’s absolutely beautiful, second, it’s family friendly and third, it is within driving distance to New River Gorge National Park & Preserve.

We loved that the resort is part of a gated community which made our family feel quite safe and free to enjoy our time away. And, while it is gated – it’s not stuffy. Our family was quite comfortable spread out in a couple of the lodge rooms. If you need more space, you can choose from townhouses and larger homes. It would be a perfect spot for family reunions and larger size gatherings.

The resort offers a number of special weekends such as Wizarding Weekend and an incredible 4th of July celebration; however, many of the guests that we talked to were there to golf. Glade Springs is known for Cobb Course which has been home to many large golf events. I admit, we are not golfers, but we did admire the beautiful course which beckons visitors from all over the United States. Whether you golf or not, there are plenty of other activities to keep your family busy. The Leisure Centers offers a large indoor basketball court (we spent many evening hours there!), an escape room, a large indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, outdoor laser tag, tennis, pickleball, bubble soccer, a movie theatre, a full size bowling alley, a game room….I could go on and on. The list is long… My point is that there are so many activities to enjoy.

Eating is not a problem. There are dining options to enjoy from – getting dressed up at Glade’s (resort attire) – to just kicking back and relaxing at Glade’s’ Grill and Bunkers Sports Bar. There is also a coffee shop near the outdoor pool area.

The Resort is about 45-50 minutes from the National Park. We had planned to whitewater raft and hike, so it did take a little planning to make sure we allowed for the drive through the mountains. Even though it was a little bit of a drive back and forth, we were still glad that we chose Glade Springs Resort. It was nice to come back in the evenings and let the kids swim and relax. If you are looking for a great whitewater rafting experience, we chose Adventures on the Gorge. Along with a variety of river experiences, they also offer ziplining, biking, rock climbing and more.

In the end, we think that The Resort at Glade Springs is definitely worth the visit. It is a well-kept secret that I’m not completely sure I want to share. But truly if you are looking for a great, drivable family vacation, check it out.
